Some of my music, and that of friends, colleagues and contemporaries is being ‘farmed’ by websites which provide ringtones for a (an extortionate) fee. Now, how these companies or individuals make money is neither here nor there. But to take ‘free’ tracks, available under a Creative Commons licence, and charge customers for them, is morally wrong in my opinion. I have provided some of my tracks as ‘no strings attached’ free downloads, because I happen to believe that, regardless of ‘quality’, some music should be provided for free. As an artform, or means of entertainment, music is a commodity…… however, I feel it should be shared. If music was my only means of income, I may feel differently about this; but it isn’t, and I like the idea of people getting something for nothing if they like the ‘product’ in this commodity-fuelled world.
So, for some talentless entrepreneur with a business plan which involves fucking people over to take advantage of this arrangement (to make money for themselves) is wrong in my view. The music is free, so get it from the free source. Don’t pay or subscribe to get it!
Anyway, I’ve withdrawn all my free tracks, mainly from www.last.fm. The reason for this is only to avoid anyone else making illegitimate revenue from it. My only completely free album was available through last.fm: it seemed to be fairly popular (in relation to my other albums); but it is now no longer available completely freely. However I will soon put it on www.dementio13.bandcamp.com as a ‘pay as you wish’ album (with no minimum price); so it can still be purchased for free if you wish. Bandcamp operates via a Java player/downloader, which (thus far) seems impervious to the scammers, so the tracks should not appear on a ringtone website in the near future.

I’ve recorded another collaboration with Nita Disaster (Juanita Alvarez). Entitled “Complicated”, the track is a hybrid slice of breakbeat, IDM and melodic techno based around Nita’s impeccable expressive poetry.
There will undoubtably be more collaborations between us, and certainly more frequent than the gap between this and our last track (2 years ago)!
The track is available at Bandcamp.com for download; pay as you wish (no minimum price).

More news: I’ve finished the post-production on “Be.ep”, the new mini-album by Cwtch. That will be available at the end of January. We’re really quite pleased with it!
I’ve also put together a mix of ‘Midnight In A Perfect World’ (by DJ Shadow) as part of the DJ Shadow Remix Project over at DJShadow.com. If you’re a musician and, like me, DJ Shadow has been a massive influence, it might be worth you popping over there to enter.
Anyway, I’m happy with the remix, here it is:
Finally, but by no means least, Nita Disaster has provided me with quite beautiful spoken-word vocals for a new collaboration track which I’m now working on. Nita and I worked together on the track ‘Deprived Of My Senses’ about two years ago….a collaboration which spawned a great track. So its a pleasure to be working on one of her songs again.

Just a quick bit of news to remind everyone of the various outlets where you can download Dementio13 wares, and information about upcoming stuff.
Firstly, All of Dementio13’s back-catalogue can now be downloaded at dementio13.bandcamp.com. This includes some new re-packaged and re-mastered versions of older albums and singles, as well as new releases.
Four Dementio13 albums are available on iTunes and at Amazon MP3 as well.
Next, news of upcoming Cwtch releases: new material will be available for download at the end of January. We’re really pleased with the new songs, which are a bit different from previous releases, still experimental pop, but perhaps a bit ‘poppier’. The songs cover trip-hop, electro and drum n bass genres, but are pretty much uncatergorizable!
The mini-album will be available at our usual outlet, cwtch.bandcamp.com.
Still with Cwtch, we’re re-mastering and re-releasing our older albums (recorded as ‘Dementio13 Feat Pixieguts‘). They will soon be available at Bandcamp also.
All the above music is available on a ‘pay as you wish’ basis, with no minimum price.
I sincerely hope you can check it all out, and download it if you like it.
Finally, I’ve updated the Dementio13 website, it’s a bit “cleaner” and more functional. Pages will be added as, and when, I have time.
Cheers.

The Doomwatch soundtrack album is now available at http://dementio13.bandcamp.com/album/doomwatch-soundtracks
So please go there and download tracks if you enjoy what you hear (pay as you wish). Once again, theres a lot of references to The Radiophonic Workshop and composers such as Wil Malone, Barry Gray, Roy Budd, etc; as befits the classic sci-fi of Doomwatch. Check out www.doomwatch.org for more info.
The title says it all really: Six new Cwtch tracks are soon to be released as a mini-album. Paul’s experimental pop sounds compliment Marie’s wonderful vocals to create hybrid music which falls between electronica and alternative pop.
Wearing my other hat, as Dementio13, I’m putting the finishing touches to the ‘Doomwatch’ soundtrack, featuring variations on a theme, and incidental atmospherics. An outline of the soundtrack’s inception can be read here.

I’ve been asked to write an updated theme and some incidental music for a new series of episodes of the classic sci-fi serial “Doomwatch”.
Doomwatch.org are creating new episodes of the serial, which originally ended after series 3, written and filmed by fans. The pre-production stills I’ve seen look promising: professional and imaginative.
Anyway, I’m going to get to work on it in the next couple of weeks, in parallel with the recording of some new material with Cwtch. I’ll post the results in January.
‘Blank’ and a single version of ‘Shake Me Up’ are now available on the iTunes store for 79p per track. Available in the UK and Europe, the US, Canada, Japan and Australia. Buy these high quality MP3s or AACs now please!
Thanks
Well, I came up with a title for it…….Moon Year Zero is a short collection of soundtracks for the (imaginary!) film of the same name. 8 tracks of lo-fi otherworldly electronics and atmospheres, with a nod in the direction of The BBC Radiophonic Workshop and Kraftwerk.
It can be downloaded at Bandcamp.com (320kbps MP3 or FLAC - name your price), so please go and get it!
